Exuding radiance and beauty is Ms. Sri Lanka for Ms. Asia 2011 Sameeri Perera who said it wasn’t just luck when she won the title. "I think the secret to taking home the title was self-confidence and having faith in myself It is hard to imagine that girls today vie for a title without really having a good personality^ she said. It is not only beauty at the end of the day. You should win people over with your personality and brains. Sameeri is a charismatic and friendly person who makes anyone feel comfortable even at the first meeting. She is 22 years and is five foot seven-and-a-half inches in height.
A Colombo-born beauty, Sameeri says that her first mentor and gum was Senaka DeSilva.1 owe Senaka for giving me the foundation to take to modelling and then giving me the push in the right direction when it came to winning the pageant," she said "Competing in my first pageant was my mother’s idea and she wanted to see me try something new. I was happy to receive the support that I got from my family or else I wouldn’t have made it this far," she said.
It was in 2009 that she competed in her first pageant where she won the Miss Photogenic ti* tie at the Lion’s Queen pageant. Later that year, she won the Nature’s Secret’s Dream Queen title loo.
"Since it was my first experience competing for such a title, I was happy with my achievement. It only made me develop myself more and learn more about how it was like to be a model." she said. Sameeri didn’t stop after she won the titles in 2009. In 2010, she went to Singapore and began her studios in Business Management at Nunyang University. "I even did the Advanced Diploma in Tourism and Hospitality Management at the same university to show that brains are worth more than beauty. If you don’t study and have a proper education, nobody will take you seriously," she said with a poster-perfect smile. While studying for her degree, she took part in the Sunday Observer Ms. Asia 2011 contest and was happy that she won.
Sameeri said that she doesn’t have a major diet regime in place but she works out at a gym. She
said that her favourite snack is Tippi Tip but she eats fruits and vegetables more than carbody-drates such as rice. "I firmly believe in keeping in shape by going to the gym but I also feel that you shouldn’t starve and become a super-skinny model," she said.
Her advice to young girls today is that they should follow an exercise regime to suit them but the real recipe for success is having a positive attitude and a clear mind. "Small steps such as personal hygiene, personality, kindness, sacrifice and punctuality contribute to making even an ordinary model into a supermodel,* she said.
^However, there are several good models who deserve their titles and I hope that one day Sri Lanka will take home an international title. I’m going to work hard to achieve this dream" said Sameeri.

She said that just like a gem which needs to be polished to shine, models need to develop etiquette, manners and talent to be recognised.
Sameeri said her fanv ily, friends, support* ers and sponsors have given her plenty of encouragement. T would like to thank Senaka, Pramila. Dharini. Gwendoline. The Sunday Observer, my designer Namal Vaas and especially Nalinda," she said
